Nasal Spray Addiction

This is the story of my dependence on, and addiction to nasal spray decongestants. It is a tale that spans almost twenty years. It is not an easy story for me to write. Writing about ones personal weakness is never easy. Taking responsibility for my nasal spray addiction is both difficult and embarrassing. After all, I have to admit to the entire world that a substance which most people can take for granted took control of my life.

This is in no way an attack on the manufacturers of Nasal Sprays. When used properly, I believe these drugs serve their purpose. Unfortunately, through ignorance, or carelessness, some people are prone to dependence on this and other decongestants. I happen to be one of those people. My nasal spray addiction is no one’s responsibility but my own.

So, why am I writing these pages? Because, I’ve been where you are. And, I’m thinking that just maybe my personal story will help you overcome your own addiction to nasal sprays.

I know, from researching the internet, that this form of addiction is a common problem. People are actively seeking information about nasal sprays and their addictive qualities. People are seeking relief from their addiction, just as I was.

And yet, some folks do not take this problem very seriously. While browsing over the internet, I’ve come across sites where sufferers are ridiculed and scorned. Speaking as one who has gone through this type of problem, I can assure you that there is nothing humorous about the situation. I fully agree that we all must take personal responsibility for our actions and addictions. Having said that, I don’t believe that anyone actively seeking help, or advice should be laughed at, or made to feel small.

I should also mention at this point that most medical experts do not consider an addiction to nasal sprays a true addiction. A true addiction (they say) is one in which there is an over-powering physiological need for the drug. Personally, I don’t think that anyone having this kind of problem is really going to care much about word-play.

So, the purpose of this site is to share my personal story regarding this problem. People need to know, that they are not weak-minded or idiots. There are plenty of us out there. We are just imperfect human beings who, slip up and make mistakes. What’s important is that we learn from our errors.

This site will be a work in progress. In later pages I hope to share some resources that will ease your suffering. Believe me; you can clear your head without the often crippling side effects that nasal decongestants sometimes bring. This is true, even if you suffer from chronic allergies as I do.

So, let’s get started!
